Linear Algebra and Differential Equations for Engineers

In Math 2174, we will study linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, and partial differential equations. For prerequisites, course textbooks, etc., please see: http://www.math.osu.edu/courses/2174

The course grade will be broken down:
Homework = 20%
Midterm #1 = 25%
Midterm #2 = 25%
Final = 30%

Office hours: I will hold regular office hours will be Wednesdays 11-12pm, Thursdays 2-3pm, and Fridays 1:30-2:30pm.

Homework: I will assign homework roughly weekly. I will not accept late homework, but at the end of the semester I will drop everyone's lowest homework grade.

Exams: Calculators will not be permitted on exams. Everyone is permitted one sheet of notes for the midterms, and two sheets for the cumulative final.

HW #1 (due 5pm Friday, August 30): Section 1.2: #22, 24, 26, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 48, 50, 52.

HW #2 (due 5pm Friday, September 6): Section 1.3: #8, 10, 14, 16, 18, 24, 28, 32; Section 1.5: #2, 4, 6, 10.

HW #3 (due 5pm Friday, September 13): Section 1.5: #16, 18, 20, 32, 40, 44, 58, 62; Section 1.6: #2, 4, 30, 42; Section 1.7 #2, 4, 10, 12.

HW #4 (due 5pm Friday, September 27): Section 1.7: #28, 32, 46; Section 4.1: #4, 8, 10; Section 4.2: #4, 6, 10, 12, 16, 18; Section 4.4: #2, 6, 8, 14.

HW #5 (due 5pm Friday, October 4): Section 4.5: #2, 6, 8, 10, 12, 18; Section 4.6: #10, 12, 18, 20, 22, 26, 28, 30.

HW #6 (due 5pm Friday, October 18): LINEAR ALGEBRA BOOK. Section 4.7: #2, 4, 6, 12. DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS BOOK. Section 7.5: #1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 11, 15, 24.

HW #7 (due 5pm Friday, October 25): Section 7.6: #3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 13, 15, 17. Section 7.8: #1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 16.
